“I was your official spokesman and worked for you for almost two years, doing the best job I could, believing that you had a gift to share with the world. When I resigned, I stated that I loved both you and your fans, who have over the years exhibited a truly amazing display of loyalty and devotion to you, both as a person and to the values that they believe you exemplify. Though that declaration might have seemed excessive at the time, it was uttered from the heart, since I believe we are all perfect in the eye’s of our Creator, an expression of that divine force that animates all life in the Universe.
Michael, artists like yourself have a special gift to express that energy, which you have done so well in your remarkable life and career. But that said, it doesn’t matter how many millions of records you have sold, how many TV specials you make, how much homage you receive, what really matters is the pact you have made with yourself, the inner self, not the celebrity who the world knows as Michael Jackson…I’m worried about you Michael, and wish that as a result of these difficult few years you could experience in your personal life that state of grace where there is no difference between the singer and the song.
Michael, I don’t want to set myself above you, like so many people are inclined to do. I don’t want to preach to you, since I know your life hasn’t been easy and that you’ve sacrificed greatly for the success you’ve achieved, creating a musical and charitable legacy like few other artists. But it is written, ‘For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?’
Michael,You have given much to the world, and have much still to give. I believe it is time to make a new beginning. I believe that if you sincerely do so, the whole world will accept and respect the new energized and contented Michael Joseph Jackson.”
Thank you, Mr. Backerman
