No, stop, stop, stop, this is a serious issue and I spoil it by being silly! Sometimes it’s not easy to be serious but I will try and I hope you listen despite of it being a lil dry at times – I’ll do my best!
This will already be enough to read so lets get this started!
It’s been nearly three years now since our big day (I know it may be not very nice to bring back memories of the trial, but give me a minute to get to my point!). Yes, it’s true, it was also OUR big day! Although it was of course mostly Michael’s victory, it was also our victory! Not only, because it could be seen as the acquittal of our ideals, not only, because we stood by Michael’s side all the way and fought for him with all our might, but also, because we were really in this together! There was such a strong bond between Michael and the fans, it really felt like family.
When I look back, it is amazing what we have endured together with Michael. We have stood with him through thick and thin, have rushed to help him whenever we could, no matter if our “enemy” was some tabloid press or a megagiant company like Sony – I mean, it’s one of the largest companies worldwide, but who cares, f*ck Sony! lol
Unfortunately it seems like this bond is slowly fading. And that’s no wonder if we consider that there is no possibility for a contact on either side! Now what have you done with things you wanted to tell Michael? Or with presents for his birthday? Ever been annoyed that there is no address anymore – only thing we know is that he’s NOT at Neverland… There’s also no person we could turn to, no website which keeps us up to date. Michael limits his efforts to giving us a short message now and then through a fellow fan (well, thanx for letting everyone know that they are NOT the lucky ones…). And all that in the age of the internet, where a communication would be so easy!
Doesn’t it feel strange to you as well, that sudden change from closeness to complete separation? What happened? Did we do anything that annoyed him? No matter what it is, it’s important that it’s communicated! We can work this out! There is nothing worse than no communication at all because this way many fans have already retreated as they are disappointed and don’t know what to make of the situation. (Yes, me too! That’s why I write this blog!) The active fan community gets smaller and smaller, some of the biggest fan communities have closed their doors or are considering it as we speak. This development is alarming! Does Michael realize this? Doesn’t he mind?
Now you might say: “Why are you whining because some egoistical needs of yours are not satisfied?” Well, first of all, if you say that, you don’t get the point, but just wait, some day you will! Secondly, that’s not all I will whine about! Watch!
On a maybe more objective basis, Michael’s recent career moves at large do not seem to be very wise. We all vividly remember the debacle of the World Music Awards, when everyone expected Michael to perform, nobody clearly denied the rumour beforehand, everyone was disappointed, it was never really clarified what exactly had gone wrong. To top all that, the fanparty had to be cancelled due to some organizational misunderstandings. Unfortunately this seems to emerge as a pattern. Announcements cannot be met, promises not kept, the contact with the public is not good, contact with the fans is fading…
His recent appearances and releases seem to always point to the past: an award for Thriller, a Thriller Re-release, a Thriller interview. It is no wonder that in the public’s eye, Michael Jackson is a legend of the past. Have you realized that people talk about him in past tense? He’s a living dead legend and he does his part to further that understanding.
I already hear people complaining so let me take the wind out of your sails: Yes, he has done enough in the world of music and showbiz and he also got his share of this business’s downsides – actually more than his share – so if he doesn’t want to release another album and step back in the spotlight, fine! As a matter of fact, that would be really understandable! But then he should say so and stop making promises which he cannot (and maybe doesn’t want to) keep. This behaviour and these occurrences destroy the last credibility he always had even in public and with the media: his artistry, his musical genius!
What he does right now is neither fish nor fowl and not just me, but many fans have started to wonder why. Is it that Michael is scared to do something new? Scared that it might flop? Scared to take the risk, to let go of old successes? If that is the problem, we need to show him that we still believe in him! We are sure that he still has it! And even if it will not be number 1 in ever so many countries, if it comes from his heart, it will be great! We have to encourage him to follow his instincts, to listen to his heart and make the music he loves, no matter if that’s what the public wants to hear! Do YOUR thing, Michael, like you have always done, don’t try to be mainstream, don’t do it for the sales, don’t do it for the public, don’t do it for us, do it for the music and the message!
These two paragraphs alone show, that there is desperate need to act because the two things that always have been stable in Michael’s life – his strong fanbase and his reputation as a musical genius – start to crumble. No matter how we look at it, we need to talk to Michael and he needs to talk to us! We need to be a team again, only that way we can work together and continue having victories!
Unfortunately, although many people will agree with me on what I said, this is – to my knowledge – the first attempt to publicly voice any kind of critique towards Michael as a fan. On many message boards it’s not even allowed, on others you can be sure that you will be assaulted, called “not a real fan” and the likes. Yes, we know, we are all fed up with negativity towards Michael because of the tabloids! But that should not be a reason why constructive criticism is abolished! In the end, Michael is human, he makes mistakes, he gets scared, he takes the wrong way, like we all do at times. Caring for someone also means being honest with him, pointing out mistakes while at the same time assuring that person, that you love him and only want his best. And I am sure that Michael takes constructive criticism and advice to his heart and is thankful for it, because then he can be sure that our praise and enthusiasm is real, too!
So that’s why I created this blog! Someone needs to start to voice an opinion so many have and start to reconnect to Michael, to help him get back to wherever he wants to go!
There is so much more about this topic which cannot all be mentioned in a short first post – at least it was planned to be short, but well… I will keep updating this blog regularly with information, things I think about and posts about different topics so check back regularly and leave comments. I know that I will be attacked by a lot of fans! But I hope that I can encourage those who have been silent for much too long to speak out as well and come together so we can make a change together! Maybe Michael needs our help now more than ever!

Dear reconnectmj, THANK YOU!!!!! I surfed through the net and found this Blog and I can just say thanks! For the first time someone really took the words out of my mouth, mind and heart. I am a MJ Fan for over 16 years now and always stood by his side, through the good times and the bad times. Cause I simply LOVED this man and still do. I loved his personality, his care for other people and the wish to help make the world a better place. I also liked his music of course, but the things he did as a person were always more important to me. So I don´t care if he ever publishes a new album or not. But I miss HIM, the person, THE MICHAEL I loved and thought I knew! It seems he doesn´t care anymore, neither for the things going on in the world nor his friends/family or fans. You don´t hear anything from him. And you´re so right reconnectmj, the unfulfilled promises he or his “team” made so often are only widening the gap between MJ and the fans. But one can not live without the other, so if MJ loses his fanbase (which is already happening), then I think he loses a part of himself, too, and more devastating, I guess, he loses his last chance to ever regain his confidence, trust and belief in himself. And I think that´s what he would need most now. But for that he needs to talk to and listen to his fans. Michael influenced my life in so many ways, but especially through his actions, the charities he supported, the things he believed in and fought for…but now, it seems to me he lost all that spirit. It seems he isn´t interested in changing the world anymore, in fact he doesn´t even seem to care about getting his own life back on course again, not even for the sake of his kids, which is very sad, I think. I understand that it must be hard after all he´s been through, but the fans were there for him and stood by his side through the trial and I want to continue to be there for him as good as I can, if he´d only turn to his friends and fans and ask for help. We´d be there, but he needs to talk to someone (which is quite easy nowadays through the internet). But THIS Michael that he seems to be right now I can no longer identify with, as sad as it sounds
I often wondered where has the Michael Jackson I so loved gone? That´s why I retreated a bit from the “fan-life” over the last year. I only zap in from time to time, most of the good MJ Fan Boards have closed anyway, so I was really surprised as I found this blog. I finally don´t feel that “alone” anymore, I´m glad there are other fans who think/feel like I do. I just sooo wish we could somehow reach Michael and get HIM back. Cause I miss him so. In fact I think the world would need the OLD Michael Jackson more than ever right now. I hope he comes back soon…not necessarily with a new album, but just being himself again…
yes i agree. but what does it help? it was different when we fought against sony or were there for him during the trial because michael himself was welcoming the support and supported our support in return. this time that’s not the case. plus i don’t think he will surf the net and by chance read this blog so what’s the point? i do miss the “old michael”, too, but i’ve given up. i don’t think he will ever come back, he got lost somewhere between all the sneddons, arvizos, bains and co….
wow! you are a very courageous person reconnetmj to create such a blog! you have my utter respect! i often tried to voice my concern regarding michaels demeanor towards us fans and how he is obvioulsy isolating himself nowadays from us and everybody. but every time i wrote something like that on a fan forum i got bad comments from other fans. they told me i was a not a real fan and should just shut up and so on. that really hurt me – because i am a true fan of michael. i love this man from the bottom of my heart and that is why i am so worried about him and his well being. i am really happy to have found your blog – you seem to mirror my thoughts. hopefully michael gets to read all this one day…
Hey guys! this blog looks interesting and i can say, after reading all the comments so far, i 100% agree. but i wondered about the same thing “noname” mentioned, all that is written here is correct, but what good will this blog do? Mike will most likely never read it, neither will someone from his team. (does he still have a team one might wonder?)
and all big revolutions and changes were started by single people or a small group of “visionaries” who wanted to change the world. well, i really think MJ together with his fans could make such a change once again! just the thought of something like that happening makes me jump for joy already. wohoo…while i used to feel quite negative about MJ´s and my “fan-future”, for some reason now i´m feeling a positive wind coming up, a light at the end of the tunnel where i saw blackness for such a long time. NICE feeling btw…hope MJ sees the light again, too!
but while i was reading through it all here again, i thought, well, at least this is a start. i mean, it´s true what “anonymous” wrote, you often get attacked when posting something more critical about MJ on a fanboard, but here you have the chance to write what you really think which is awesome! so, maybe this here can be the start of sth bigger? who knows…if enough fans gather here and try to get the message through to MJ, maybe he´ll get to know about it and start to listen again.

Well… I don´t know what to think now. On the one hand, I really agree with most things you people already wrote… It would be great to hear or read from Michael more often and to feel that there is still a bond between Michael and his fans… BUT I also think that we can´t force him to do anything for us or to speak with us.
And MAYBE he is already working very hard on new stuff to be released?! There are sooo many roumors that something´s going on… And I am really looking forward to it!
I think, Michael still needs a bit of time – he also still has some private trouble to solve and THEN he will come out with something great! I STILL BELIEVE IN MICHAEL!!!
i just saw your posting on the mjeol forum. well i can understand what you are talking about and i do feel the same in most parts. but i don’t see anything changing just because we write about it. i think michael does not care what we fans say or think. he is sure that once he gets an album out all fans will be back and he does not need us in the meantime, you know. it sounds hard – but i guess it is showbusiness. we are just fans and we are only there to buy his cd’s, in his opinion i guess. it might have been different in the past though, definately during the trial. but i guess thats just the way he is nowadays: taking, taking taking and not caring what others might feel. i am not blaming him though after what he has been through, you know – its just sad for us and for him….our big dreams have died
Hi again, well… I mostly agree with the things reconnectmj writes. The MJ fanbase is crumbling, there is no good contact between MJ and the fans, everybody is wondering about MJ´s “team” and if there is or was a certain “PR strategy” behind the things Ms Bain was doing and saying. (I don´t think so)
I mean, what was this Japanese foto thing???!!!
And what happened at the WMAs in London 2006???! There was so much misinformation! We never got proper answers from MJ´s “team” to so many questions.
The next thing I wonder is, if Friedman was mostly right in his articles?! He criticised Bain and Grace, he knew very early much about MJ´s financial problems, about Bahrain contracts and so on… So, is it also true that MJ is isolating himself even from his whole family and friends?
I am a bit worried about MJ. Does he really want a musical comeback? Or is he just trying (T25)because he needs money? Who and where are his real friends? Is he and are his kids doing fine in Las Vegas?
OMG, I´m sorry for writing such a chaos, but the “topic MJ” includes for me just too many questions and problems…

What a interesting blog! You know, I was wondering about most of this questions for months now. I could not find logical answers to all the chaos we see and so I tried to look beyond the surface. I have the feeling that Michael has somehow lost his “soul” during the trial. You know, it was just too much for him to take – it was a matter of life and death. I am sure he had to take some kind of medicine to survive all the emotional stress and I am sure he still – to this day – has to take things to get through his day. He had to endure the unbelievable – he walked through hell. Every day was a torture for him and he was not sure if he would be able to make it to the end – although he needed to be strong on the outside for his kids and for his fans. Just imagine this emotional stress! I can imagine that he might suffer from strong depressions. On top he does not want to trust anyone anymore. He surely had not too many people to trust before the trial but now I believe he does not have anyone left, due to his own actions. I think he does not want to be emotionally involveld with anybody – besides his kids, of course. Emotions are dangerous for him. He wants to keep them out of his head and he wants the memories of the trial time out of his head. But I think that without emotions an artist can not deliver his art. Emotions are nourishment for any kind of art. My feeling is that he desperately tries to create music but he simply can’t deliver to his standards. On top he knows he has to make another album due to his financial situation. All this pressure could get him into more depressions. That is also my explaination to why he seems to collaborate with so many artist that “sound like him”. He wants to work with them to find to himself again, cause he has lost himself on the way. I think we fans should try to remind him of whom he used to be. He needs to find his soul again – otherwise I don’t see a bright future…
I don´t know what about Michael, but I I know and I see some of YOU guys really suffer!
but I´m not even sure about that! So what can we do? You can only help a person you can reach! And even then you can only help him or her if he or she cooperates. And Michael does not. Maybe he´s unable, maybe he just wants to be left alone. It would be nice just to know, because Michael has won our hearts and souls and now he´s invisible and our hearts and souls don´t know where to go to – but we have to face the fact: He´s invisible…

I see that many fans really hang on to their Michael-dream and will fight with all their might to keep it alive. That´s okay and I admire everyone of you out there for spreading your love out into Michaels direction so sincerely and true. But always keep in mind that your love goes out to a person who obviously is reluctant to show up!
I don´t know the reasons why – I hope that he isn´t held in chains, neither physically nor psychologically
… or if anyone has seen him recently: just give us a sign
Until that sign appears, we all should keep him in our heart, but not as a prisoner … He´s sensitive … Maybe he´s just seeking his freedom …

I was really astonished when I found this blog! Finally someone is courageous and motivated enough to try and make a change! Because I’m absolutely sure about the fact that MJ needs a change – as the fans do!
Lots of you already wrote about how the bond between Michael and his fans was so strong in the past and how it is now getting weaker and weaker. About how promises are made but not kept. How the communication between MJ and his fans is in fact not extistent. And so on. I totally agree! And I’m a bit torn between just being angry and on the other hand just feeling pity for Michael for all the inhuman things he had been put through. I totally understand when he wants to quit with the show business once and for all. I’d respect every decision! The only thing I really find sad is, that he doesn’t communicate his decisions with us, the fans! I really think we DESERVE to know! And deserve to get a few personal words from Michael. But all we get to read are these little messages once in a while that don’t seem to come from his heart. They rather sound like .. well platitudes, maybe not even written by himself, about how much he loves the fans and that “the best is yet to come” – but when? and what? Thriller Remixes?
IF he decides to give it another try and do another album, than I hope he’ll finally realize that the fans and the public want the REAL Michael! As one of you guys already said: We want music that comes from his heart, music that really means something to him, music with a message – like in past times. I have the impression he doesn’t have enough self-esteem anymore to really do HIS thing. Instead he works with Akon or Fergie because they are considered hot in the industry at the moment. Michael once was a visionary..
Which brings me to another topic.. As willyoubethere already said: What happened to the person Michael Jackson, or better his care for the world and his imperturbable views. To make it short: Past – “Heal the world” and everything he ever did or said concerning this topic. NOW he says that he doesn’t care whos gonna be the next US president because you can’t really do much anyway, it’s all destiny – all god-given. NOW he greets US Troups stationed in Japan! I mean troups Bush sent! I just don’t understand this… And after such things happend over and over again I feel like I absolutely don’t know Michael, probably never did.. and I’m disappointed. Almost giving up and turning my back on the MJ Scene. But now I consider this blog here, or better this initiative, as “the last chance” for making a change and getting our man back!
So thanks very much for this blog, reconnectMJ! I think the fan scene really needs an alternative platform where the rule of free opinion and speech is still honored. Many MJ Forms have developed some kind of censorship where everything critical gets deleted. Only with a platform like this where fans can exchange opinions and ideas and also level criticism at Michael when necessary, there is a chance to attract enough attention to finally get through to MJ!
So I’d say, let’s give it a try!
Thank you so much for making this blog. I’m glad I found it right at the beginning and I hope you will not stop it soon again. To be honest, I have to say, I’m not a fan anymore and I almost gave up to believe in Michaels words. Don’t know why he continously talks about his plans, a new album, a Vegas show, a big awards show, the next tour, theme parks and on and on and on. What happens? Nothing. I’m feeling sad and sorry to say this, but I don’t want to hear it anymore. I don’t want to hear these words without meaning anymore. Michael, do you think, your fans will believe in you for 100 more years without any reason? Are you so badly off, that you are not able to do something for the people who loves you and who paid your life during the last 30 years? Or are there any other reasons, which prevent you? Why don’t you talk about it? The whole world knows about your problems, your money, your home. Why don’t you just say “I have this and that, you know. I want to make new music, but I can’t for this or that reason.”? The fans travelled to Santa Barbara three years ago, they gave the shirst of one’s back to be close. They celebrated your victory. Why couldn’t you just say “thank you” to all these people? I start crying, when I’m reading all these comments and when I’m writing this.
Once you said, keep the faith, but I almost lost it. I still love your music, but I stopped to believe in your words. 10 years ago your words were the only reliable source, but now? Thanks god, Raymone seems to be away, but why don’t you talk to us in person? What is to difficult to do this?
Please come back, M.J., with or without music. But just be honest and give us some facts.
I totally agree with Leyla!!! It is so sad and I so much miss our Michael with all his love and power! Maybe we cann help him to find himself again! He needs emotion – but positive emotion!

and I agree with Anonymous, I also just read the new entry and Í couldn´t believe it. how did it all come I wonder? what happened with MJ and the fans? once we were all fighting against injustice, prejudice and for freedom of speech/opinion and peace…simple democratic values. now neither MJ nor the fans seem interested in any of these values. very sad. although i still can´t believe it all changed out of the blue and why? I want the old times back where it was a great, good and inspiring thing to be MJ fan. it felt together we can really change the world and make it better. and it was fun, too, seeing MJ, his concerts, meeting new people from all over the world who share a common view and values. without the ongoing rivalry who met MJ more often, got more photos with him, they say oh look how happy he looks here and so on… while MJ gets thinner each day and his smile is no longer the smile that it used to be years ago. it´s just facade and not even the fans who once were so close to him and each other recognize it. it has all become superficial…imo first the attitude amongst the fans must change…only THEN the relationship MJ-Fans will also have a chance to improve again. but seeing what reconnectmj just experienced on some fanboards i can not see that happening. sad, just sad, sadder…
Well, I won´t comment on those weird things going on amongst the fans and in the fan boards because I´ve never really been a part of that and I´ll probably never be. That´s not my world (and has anybody thought about the fact that it may not be Michaels world either?)
See, to be perfectly honest, I wasn´t even really happy with the beginning of this discussion when reconnectmj talked about that “big day” three years ago …
I saw him coming out there and like most fans, I was quite shocked … I said: OMG, that man is DONE!
Of course, he´s absolutely right saying that it was the acquittal of our ideals and it certainly was a victory of common sense and the fan community, but I still can´t see this day as Michaels big victory.
Yes, I´ve cried my tears when I heard the verdict, too, but those were tears of relief and not really tears of happiness. We all know that Michael didn´t look exactly like the big victor, right? He even didn´t look like a survivor
And since that day I´m just hoping and praying that he is getting/ has gotten over it somehow, but don´t imagine it being that easy … And all the fan support does help, I´m sure, but it can mean additional stress, too. I hate to say, but I think Leyla might be right.
Still I understand the desperate fans who want him back! He´s so important to the world. Yes it´s right. We need the Michael-magic more than ever.

If I could talk to Michael, I´d say: “Thank you so much! I´m one of the blessed people who´ve had the honour of experiencing your “magic” personally (and don´t ask me to define it, I can´t describe it in words other than “magic”). And that changed my life. To me, you were like the big bird showing the sad silly little birdy how to fly *lol* And now I can make it on my own. So you wouldn´t have to come back for me, but I KNOW that there are so many sad little birdies out there TODAY who desperately need your magic. Michael, don´t think your magic has been killed. It´s within you somewhere. It can´t be killed. If you need proof, just move your little finger and watch all the music coming out of that movement. It´s MAGIC
Very interesting discussion! I saw your blog on a German fanforum and got caught by what you all said/wrote!. The reactions to your blog are divided in two parties though. There are those who do agree and have similar feelings – and the others who don’t understand why you are complaining. I can understand both sides but I definately belong to the first mentioned party. But I guess that the differnt point of views have a lot to do with the different kind of fans that are out there. We all call ourselves MJ-fans – but some of us are mostly interested in his unique music and art, others are big collectors and own almost everything there is to collect of MJ and then there are those who feel more drawn to by Michael the human being with all his efforts and influence in humanitarian projects. Some have supported Michael by travelling to Calfiornia others have supported him in their own country and again others have tried to step back from being a fan during the hard time – yet are back again. I will not say this group is better than that group etc…its just to make clear that we all come from different backgrounds and therefore have different points of view and feelings regarding Michaels current behavior. We have all had different experiences with or around Michael. Some have met and talked to him some have never seen him … Some are new fans others have been fans for almost 20 or more years and have experienced a lot more in that time, of course.
I am a fan for nearly 20 years now and I have seen A LOT – believe me.
All I want to say is that Michael seems very distant to me nowadays. It was different to not hear anything during the BAD or Dangerous era, cause Michael had not build such a strong bond to his fans then but to not hear anything from him nowadays is very strange and hard to understand – especially if he really plans to come back…somehting is not right here.

I am a “fan” (I hate that word) for about 20 years now, too, and I have experienced a lot regarding Michael also, but I have NOT experienced that strong fan group & Michael bond you all talk about because I´ve never really been a part of that.
